Four Characteristic Unius Policies
All work is performed by patent attorneys
Since the time of our founding, we have held to a policy whereby all patent applications and other professional documents are drafted only by qualified patent attorneys, without resort to the non-patent-attorney technical writers (sometimes referred to as “patent engineers”) that are employed by many other firms. This is the most distinctive feature that distinguishes us from other firms.
At Unius, each patent attorney takes full responsibility for his or her work, and is able to personally ensure that only the highest quality services are provided.
We analyze the latest case law for relevant lessons to be applied to our practice
We hold regular review sessions in which we study recent court decisions and other intellectual property cases, covering two cases per week.
We make our case summaries available to the public via our website, and we also publish a regular newsletter to facilitate exchange of information with our clients.
The approach we employ ensures that all of our patent attorneys are able to incorporate the results of our case law studies into their respective practices.
We maintain a high level of technical expertise so that we can better understand our clients’ inventions
The level of expertise and technological understanding of the patent attorneys in a firm go a long way toward explaining how the work of that firm will compare with the work of other firms. Many of our patent attorneys have prior experience working in corporate R&D and intellectual property departments. Our patent attorneys are able to utilize their prior experience and expertise, and they also keep their knowledge up-to-date by staying abreast of the latest cutting-edge developments.
Many of our patent attorneys are recognized as experts in their fields of specialization. No matter the technical field, our patent attorneys are able to engage in technical discussions on an equal footing with our inventor clients, and this ability allows us to obtain better protection for our clients’ inventions.
We provide our clients with easy-to-understand explanations
At Unius, we place great importance on good client communication. Our patent attorneys strive to be adept not only at drafting patent specifications, but also at explaining the technical, legal, and procedural aspects of their cases in terms that will be easy for their clients to understand.
We go out of our way to provide various in-house opportunities for our staff to give speeches and deliver presentations during our case law review sessions and regular meetings, and we also encourage our staff to be proactive in giving lectures and presentations outside the firm.
The Principles That Have Guided Us Since Day One
From the time of our founding by four patent attorneys in 1998, we at Unius Patent Attorneys Office have held to the principle that our patent attorneys should be experts in their respective fields so that they can draft and prosecute their own cases.
Although we employ paralegal and administrative support staff for routine office matters, we do not employ non-patent-attorney technical staff to draft patent applications. Instead, by employing patent attorneys who are experts in their respective technical fields and by ensuring that each patent application is drafted by the appropriate patent attorney expert himself or herself, we are able to offer premium-quality intellectual property services. We currently employ more than 25 patent attorneys, for a total of approximately 50 employees including paralegal and administrative support staff.
The acronym “Unius,” which forms a part of our firm name, is based on the following three principles that have guided us since our founding in 1998.
UNIUS:
Fully expressing our diverse individual talents without sacrificing organizational cohesion.
You and us
Creating an atmosphere of confidence and trust that is good for our clients and good for us.
You need us
Making valuable contributions to society by satisfying genuine needs of our clients and of society.
In keeping with these principles, the individuals making up our firm are persons having high aspirations and a strong sense of purpose.
While recent economic conditions have made the field of intellectual property less forgiving than was the case in previous years, it is also true that patent attorneys will have an increasingly important role to play in the intellectual property world of the future.
Now more than ever, we believe that this is the time to embrace the spirit and principles that have guided us since our founding, as represented by the word “Unius” which we coined for ourselves, so that we can continue to provide the very best in intellectual property services.
